Evaluation Specification

GCSE Media Studies Evaluation


For evaluation, candidates must produce their own evaluation of 300-500 words or equivalent, depending on the presentational form selected, which explains how their production:


  • met its aim and purpose
(Did your film/trailer/newspaper/opening credits succeed?)


  • used appropriate generic conventions
(used the conventions of the genre eg. music, titling, camera shots, editing, mise-en-scene etc)


  • used representations
(how were men/women /age, sexuality/disability/ethnicity portrayed?)


  • used narrative (where appropriate)
(how and why did you construct the storyline)


  • addressed the chosen or preferred audience(s) and /or user(s)
(get audience feedback on this with a questionnaire)


  • revealed media organizational issues.
(What problems did you have? Eg. filming, equipment, research, getting copyright permission etc)
